About Us
Welcome! We look forward to getting to know you and your child. My name is Sara and I am the owner of Sunshine OT for Kids. I have practiced school-based OT since 2006 in both Massachusetts and California. During this time, I gained valuable experience with managing a large caseload, collaborating with a multidisciplinary team, writing IEP and 504 plans, and supporting staff with trainings.
When asked why I started this practice, the answer is simple: personal experience as a parent. My children have given me the education of a lifetime in neurodiversity and how to advocate with all my might. When we were going to a lot of therapies, doctor's appointments and evaluations, I was so overwhelmed. Occasionally we would find a service provider that would come to our home or school and it was life giving. We were spending less time in traffic and waiting rooms and more time enjoying much needed play and rest. Now, I want to give you that same relief, by providing OT that comes to your child at school.

This girl is a superhero, spreading sunshine wherever she goes.
She is the inspiration behind our name.
Areas of Focus
A major focus for us is supporting handwriting skills needed for math & language arts. We are trained and have years of experience implementing the Handwriting/Learning Without Tears Program and the Size Matters Program.
We advise on adaptive equipment and school environment modification to maximize student outcomes.

We build skills in the areas of:
-
upper body and core strength and stability
-
fine motor & visual motor
-
coordination & motor planning
We are also highly experienced with the Zones of Regulation and Social Thinking programs. And while we are a near-affirming therapists, there are useful strategies in these programs that can be used to further support your child at school and home.

Fun Facts
I am an avid photographer and I love taking photos of family, friends and my kids. I also enjoy videography and making movies of special times in our lives. Volunteering is an important part of my life and I take photos and videos for different non-profit organizations and projects.

Another passion of mine is planning interior design projects and you will often find my nose in architecture and designer's books.

Planning and researching our family's trips is my absolute favorite thing to do. Especially if it involves hikes, off roading, and beautiful landscapes.
Community Outreach
If a business or organization in the community would like to find ways to be more inclusive for our neurodiverse population, I love volunteering to provide strategies and ideas.

I will provide 30 minutes of free consultation to a local, kid focused business or organization (e.g.- gymnastics, dance, art, karate, scouts etc...) to help neurodiverse kids access what is offered.
